Castle Acre

Then we swung on by Castle Acre. It was starting to get dark but it was neat.

Castle Acre came into the possession of William I de Warenne, a close associate of William the Conqueror, in the 1070s. Within three generations the Warennes had created the castle, surrounded the town with massive ramparts and established its famous Cluniac priory. Remarkably, all three survive in recognizable form, and together give an unrivalled impression of the physical, social and religious impact of the Norman Conquest. The castle itself is particularly important for the form and development of its defenses and of the stone building in the inner bailey.

Castle Rising Castle

We took a fun Sunday afternoon drive to Castle Rising Castle.

One of the largest, best preserved and most lavishly decorated keeps in England, surrounded by 20 acres of mighty earthworks.

Begun in 1138 by William d'Albini for his new wife, the widow of Henry I, in the 14th century it became the luxurious exile-place of Queen Isabella, widow (and alleged murderess) of Edward II.

The Entry…

There is the remains of a small church on the grounds. You can just about see where the cross was in the stone work. The church predated the castle. It is extra old.

Can you imagine living there?

Skating!

Our Neighbors and friends the Kuehne’s invited us to meet them for skating and to eat pizza after. We had never been skating, I was a bit nervous but game for anything fun.  Well, I was SURPRISED by my children. They loved to skate. We are still beginners but gee whiz they are getting good. I see skating as a new hobby.

Friends

We had a great time at the squadron hail and farewell on Friday night. Madeline was having so much fun with you friends she didn’t want to leave. Morgan our neighbor offered to bring her home when she came home. Well, after I left Madeline’s big toe got a boo boo from the door. Her amazing friends wrapped it up with paper towels, got ice, and rushed her home. Then they made her cards and delivered them. What neat girl friends. Friends are a BLESSING!

First Day of Busy Bees

Today was Williams’ first day of Nursery School. He will attend (unless he gets kicked out) T, W, Th, from 12:30 until 4:00pm. It is the cutest nursery school! You have to check out their website. William is in the Robin classroom. William is not a great picture poser. It had just stopped raining and we ran out to get a few pictures.

He ran right into his classroom and I was thrilled to see all the numbers and letters. After I filled out a few more papers in the office I checked back in and he was sitting on the floor talking to his teacher. At pick up he was happily putting his letters in order. He actually threw a huge fit and didn’t want to leave. His teachers said he had a few meltdowns and didn’t want to join circle time. He finally came to circle time when they let him hold the number 21. The day then got a little crazy… I guess I hit a curb pulling into busy bees and my tire came off the rim and had a HUGE hole in it. Of course my car comes with an air pump and not a spare or tire changing kit. After a tearful call to my friend Morgan she called the squadron and a few of the Air Force finest came out to save the day. It took 4 people and a the local Mildenhall tire man to get my tire off. My car is spending the night at Busy Bees and my fabulous friend Jenn drove us all home. Wow what a crazy night! I do have to say that the people here are wonderful. Morgan called with a dinner invite and Jenn is taking me to my car tomorrow. What a great team.  Hey…only 48 more days until Nick is home.
